Better than the American historical productions
But NOT historically accurate. Easy mistakes that could have been avoided... the costumes and hairstyles presented in this movie are post Marie Anoinette style revolution, and the actions in the movie are before Marie Antoinette arrived at Versailles. The little black boy was adopted by Marie Antoinette and Louis XVI long after XV's death by smallpox.

It could have been a better movie if it was more historically true, and involved more Versailles drama beyond the love story. I would have loved to see the tea parties, more gossip among Louis's family, and the love story laid out and unfolding on more historical background with highlighted events that could give us a better idea of the timeline and progression of the movie.

Depp was impeccable in the role of King Louie XV
Johnny Depp was perfect in the role of the King, his body language and his eyes conveyed his feelings perfectly. His French accent was very good and for me his amazing talent carried the film as I came away unsure of Maiwenn's suitability for the role, someone younger may have been a better choice. Johnny reminded me of his Edward Scissor Hands character in that the emotions he portrayed were very moving without saying very much. The Kings Valet was also excellent as were the women playing his daughters. I was sorry it was only on for 1 week as I would have went to see it again but will have to wait for streaming.

    Great movie, incredible acting.
Loved the movie impeccable costumes designs. Equally as great were the set designs. I enjoyed watching the chemistry between Jeanne DuBarry (played by Maiwenn) and King Louis (played by Johnny Depp). Maiwenn is an incredible director and captivating main character. Looking forward to more collaborations from Maiwenn. After viewing this film I will definitely be seeing it a second time. The drama, the tragedy and absurdity of their opulence was mesmerizing to watch on the big screen. Really glad that it was not dubbed in English. Their French was impeccable and made the film that much better. I would recommend this film to anyone and everyone. It was suspenseful, romantic, all around excellent.
