The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare

The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare

In 1940, Winston Churchill and Ian Fleming form a clandestine combat organization for Britain's military that changes the course of World War II and prefigures the modern black ops unit through its unconventional and entirely ‘ungentlemanly’ fighting techniques against the Nazis.

    Not Guy Ritchie enough
Henry Cavill as the guy who inspired James Bond, Ian Fleming and M as characters, Eiza Gonzalez, Alan RItchson etc just standing around being hot and badass in Guy Ritchie's Inglorious Bastards. There's so much on paper to like but it really needed to be more fictional to work in this style. It's already fictionalized in a lot of ways but it's still not crazy enough to justify the crazy style and characters of Guy Ritchie. So many stereotypes while Churchill is shown as a hero feel pretty wrong too. Eiza Gonzalez's part of the story was the weakest link. But even the rest of the movie isn't interesting enough with a very cliched heist structure to it. This felt like it could've been so much better if they went full-on bonkers with it or on the flipside, it would've been at least a little bit better if it wasn't as ridiculous as it is. Argylle totally tricked me, this also didn't have enough Cavill for me even though, here he is a main character and they didn't trick us. Nonetheless, it's still moderately enjoyable. I could always have some Guy Ritchie. After.

    History is better this way....
Knowing history helps and for a true story, this one just plain Rocked!

Action and mayhem yet the gore is understated. Loved the score, the cars the costuming.... the complexity of the story line actually requires paying attention. Not mindless revenge flick.....the fabric of the failing of Hitler..... we could take some notes for current affairs??!!

Bravo. Cavill is brilliant and perfect leader of this band of mercenaries. Allot going on to make this clock tick. Everytime I rewatch I get more out of it.... it doesn't waste time forcing us to endure the unquestionably long boat, car and or drone rides around, through, parallel to the to and fro's of foiling Nazi plans.

Great movie; so refreshing to be entertained by a movie these days
Henry Cavill commands the screen and delivers on every level. Was just so refreshing to sit down and enjoy a movie to leave entertained and actually interested to watch again. The story is closely based on a true mission and actual people from one of the most defining times in history. The right combination of action, humor, and wit to keep you entertained from start to finish. The rest of the cast delivers as well, making not one character feel out of place and making another pick up the slack. Is just refreshing to see a movie where the only objective is to take you away and tell a story from start to finish that is well acted, directed, and written with the purpose to be entertaining and that is mission accomplished.

    The Ministry of Mundane Warfare
The sensibilities of Guy Ritchie's antics meshed with the chaotic group that would ultimately lead to British Special Forces is a match made in heaven. In Theory. Unfortunately, Guy Ritchie falls back into bad habits delivering a somewhat entertaining yet underwhelming affair. There is entertainment to be had if one just sits back and enjoys the violence. That is sadly most of what the film has to offer. The characters are underdeveloped. The B plot is boring. And even the action can sometimes be fairly pedestrian. The performances are good and everyone inhabits his or her characters well. Its just that the film can't assemble these pieces together to realize the potential it has. The film can certainly be enough for mild entertainment. But subsequent rewatches or a film you will truly remember it is not.
