Metal got its High School Musical
Everything you hate about teen rom-com is in full display here except it's punctuated with Opeth, Sepultura and Emperor. I love Jack Black or when a Kardashian wears a Cannibal Corpse shirt. Metal is an unstoppable force that will on occasion bleed into the A-list and I'm always down for that. Tuck away your cynical crustiness for a bit and just enjoy an homage to the greatest musical genre to ever exist. This movie is a lot of fun and has a heavy dose of the feels for any weirdo that couldn't find a way to connect while growing up. Metal was that connection and we got to exist in that narrow slice of history.

    What did I just watch.
As a metal lover myself this movie physically made me recoil. I am usually supportive of metal heads but when it comes to the abomination of a character called Hunter, it's quite difficult.

Let's start with the personality. He tried to justify his horrible behaviour with it being 'metal' sorry Hunter, being a massive cow to your 'best friend'/everyone around you and forcing Levin to be in a band isn't very 'metal'. Not to mention Hunters blatant sexism, as a woman that is obsessed with metal and rock music it filled me with rage that this greasy haired iguana looking boy was being sexist. In the middle of the movie I bursted into tears (of laughter and sadness) because of Hunters criminal haircut. That haircut alone made me go through the 5 stages of grief. I honestly hate the bullies more than Hunter because they gave him that god awful haircut.

Kevin and Emily are the only half tolerable characters in the whole movie. But even Kevin almost made out with another girl while he was dating Emily.

Please don't get me started on the plot. Me and my friends had a vague idea of what was going on the entire movie.

The only good part of the movie was the songs and the fact it was so bad it was laughable. Traumatised for ever. Bad movie.

    METAL UP YOUR BOOTY
    Enjoyed it, laught and smiled.

It is a pop corn movie, yes, but it's funny and it had good moments.

Funny thing is that watching the movie, i understood why some of my metalhead friends didn't like it 🤣

Much needed fun with loads of humanity.
If you like this genre (teen pics, comedy, bildungsroman, rock pics) you will like this movie. It was a huge surprise to me - I was expecting a lame slightly funny pic but was given the gift of laughter, I fell in love with the three lead characters, and came away feeling like this is my favourite pic of 2022.

I cannot say enough good things about Jaeden Martell. He is charismatic and charming. The two supporting actors, Adrian Greensmith. And Isis Hainsworth are wonderful too. I hope to see more from all three of them. I am sure they all have great careers ahead.

So if you are looking for a funny, deep, perfectly directed film, do yourself a favour and watch this one.
