The ultimate 'based on real events' story
You couldn't ask for more from a film retelling a real story than Thirteen Lives. Mortensen and Farrell completely disappear into their roles and there's no 'Hollywooding' whatsoever.

The tension, pacing, acting, cinematography, sound design and all other elements come together brilliantly. It felt like a high quality documentary at times, rather than a film with renowned actors playing the real people.

I can't really find any flaws in this film, Ron Howard delivers one of the best movies of recent times and I don't believe it's a particularly well known film at all.

The solution to attempting to get the boys and coach out of the cave is absolutely jaw dropping, and seeing the cast process how it needs to happen is beyond incredible.

This is a movie that needs to be seen and talked about much more. Flawless.

    A beautiful and claustrophobic movie!!
The movie "Thirteen Lives" is loosely based on the real events of a mission to free 12 young soccer players and their coach from a flooded cave in northern Thailand in 2018. Director Ron Howard masterfully manages to capture and convey to us the claustrophobic feeling of the divers inside the cave's narrow and open corridors. In addition, he prepares us for the environment of political and religious pressure, the suffering of family members, and the anguish of English and Australian divers. The movie has a strong emotional appeal, mainly due to the great performances by Viggo Mortensen and Colin Farrell. This is also a good thriller where we already know the ending.

    Amazing!
Great performance from Viggo and Colin. The story is told with no drama, very real life facts, no dramatic music and well done for that.

More like live documentary from the rescue divers perspective. The underwater scenes and sounds are brilliant, so much it makes you out of breath too. Glad the story was told in Thai and characters speaking Thai and only international helpers were speaking English.

No special effects (at least I couldn't tell) and everything looked so real.

Also, I didn't realise the kids were sedated for transfer which made me really anxious for their airways and breathing haha.

    Definitely a must see.

    What an amazing story!
Nothing beats a movie based on a true story, it just adds something special to the experience. Certainly with a story like this one that had the entire world in its grip. Ron Howard scored big time with Thirteen Lives. It's a long movie, that starts slow and advances at a slow pace but the suspense is building slowly to end in an astonishing climax. Great cinematography, you can feel the tension throughout the whole rescue operation, the desperation is touching to watch. The end had me shedding a tear. Great cast for this biography, all class actors, even the ones unknown from the audience did a good job. If you like movies based on true events, especially rescue dramas, give this one a shot.

A touching story - excellent acting!
I really liked the movie! From the first minutes the situation was brewing, without taking away the viewer's time for unnecessary details. Perfect ! The game of actors, American and Thai, everything turned out harmoniously without unnecessary emotionality, but at the same time touching and sincere! I think this is how a documentary should be!

I cried .. I think the script that brings you to tears is a good script also the acting, you can't do without it! I chewed a lot, whether the doctor's method, with the help of anesthesia, would work to save the children .. I thought, what would I do in his place? ... it is difficult ! If you completely remove emotions and take risks ... well, if a person is very nervous and subject to doubts .. it would be difficult for him to do everything accurately and competently ... I admire this story! I don't know how it was in reality, but if it's exactly the same (the scenario without any changes in the real story), then great respect to the divers and just people who did everything to help and save the children.

One of Ron's Best Movies in Years
To start off right away, the cinematography and sound design are the stand outs in the film, making this an immersive storytelling experience. It's shot in a way where it almost feels like a documentary. When the divers traverse through the cave system, the sound is distinct and heightens the tension which gets complimented by its score. The actors all play their part well, nothing dramatic, they keep it to a minimum, but it helps with the realism. It also does a good job at highlighting the efforts made by the people on the outside while our main characters make their way through the flooded tunnels of the cave. The way that Ron Howard decided to direct and tell this real life story makes this a worthwhile experience and one of his best movies. Final verdict: 9/10.
