This is how to create a simple but good thriller
Lately I see movies "trying too hard", but sometimes simplicity is the best. There are only a handful of main actors, but there really is no need for more. The acting is great, and the cinematography is on point. As someone who is familiar with the desert setting in real life, I believe "Borrego" has managed to create this desert feeling for the viewer. "Borrego" is also a good thriller since you never really know what will happen next, and it leaves the viewer speculating the unfolding of the story throughout the film.

If you are a thriller/drama fan, I would recommend this title to you.

    Worst Rom-Com ever
My wife put on Borrego while I was hauling moving boxes around, so I missed a lot.

The opening sequence includes all of the standard tropes: the heroine has a quirky job in botany, The young hiker she teaches is the daughter of a (conveniently available) sheriff, and there's an invasive species that needs a-tacklin. When she goes missing we see that he truly does care about her.

In the second act, the heroine gets taken hostage after saving a bumbling drug-smuggler who crashes his flimsy glider into the side of a mountain. She points out that she knows the area while he doesn't and agrees to hike with him to his drop-off point. After a day of bickering and one-uppery, they stop to rest and he throws her a bottle of water in a surprise gesture of humanity. We come to find-out that he is only in the drug game out of necessity; hinting that he might be a mixed up good-guy after all.

My wife ended the movie because she was bored, so I'll never find out if there was a possible love triangle type of thing going on here, or if the mixed up good guy would get a story arc in which he helps to save the couple in the end.

Admittedly, this all is a bit edgy for the Rom-Com genre, but I guess that's what the kids are into these days. I also thought it an odd choice to shoot this film in sepia hues, since vibrant colors play much better for this type of flick. I guess the director was on some avant-garde nonsense.

    Garbage
This was absolute garbage from the overdone plot to the terrible acting to the bad directing. The last half of the movie i thought to myself, is this a comedy?.

Seriously, don't waste your time like i did. Absolute garbage.
