carabal-14849 - 11 January 2024 Captivating Narratives and Distinctive Direction The narrative unfolds as a captivating tale with commendable performances and a remarkable chemistry evident among the cast members. Nonetheless, there are instances where the story takes on a certain aloofness, particularly during an extensive period post-Patrick's release from prison. This timeframe, unfortunately, remains largely unexplored, creating a sense of detachment in certain parts of the plot.
Despite this, the film manages to stand out due to its distinctive qualities. The direction is exceptional, guiding the audience through a cinematic journey that leaves a lasting impression. The visual elements, including cinematography and imagery, contribute significantly to the film's overall appeal, adding to its uniqueness.
mrwildgoose - 25 July 2023 Choose wisely in life Just watched it.. it was okay, in that everyone eventually found redemption.
Good perfomances. I especially loved Gina McGee in it.
Maybe the direction could have had a few more pauses - seemed a bit rushed, in places. Would also have been nice if there was some passing mention about how the characters developed in time, over the years.
The 'moral of the story' might be - not to lie to others (cop), not to try and force things (teacher) and to have your wits about you, even if your heart's in the right place (curator). The curator already had courage, and the other two characters also found courage (to be genuinely happy) in the end!
rm-98266 - 9 January 2023 Awkward Bad acting and bad casting from everyone but young Patrick. Harry's choice in voice is just a bit strange and stilted and the actor playing old Tom didn't do much better. The dialogue was stunted and at no point did it show any sincere bonding or fun between characters.
The actual characters were all pretty unlikeable and uncharismatic. I didn't really for any of them, except maybe during Patrick's prison attack scene.
It was visually pleasing and the sex scenes were well shot, if a little glamorised. The concept isn't bad too but the execution was slow, stilted and actually quite boring.
I also think it would be nice to see some of Tom's life outside of the love triangle to feel the immediate pressures on him more.
sally-w - 24 December 2022 A quiet achiever In a three person triangle there is a loser no matter which two you choose to look at.
A lovely love story beautifully filmed with attention to detail and a generous soul.
I really liked it for its slow burn, beautiful scenery lovely surroundings. I had friends who were in this situation and in particular one who would have fitted into this perfectly in the 80's - it wasn't legal it wasn't enforced under the law but so much was hidden until there were people who had no idea who they were.
Innocence is a wonderful thing and love is an everlasting thing. Harry Styles is great - surprisingly great. The rest are fantastic too.
Mr-Topshotta - 4 December 2022 "MY POLICEMAN" REVIEW Directed by Michael Grandage. A runtime of one hour and fifty-three minutes. Streaming on prime video with an R rating. Based in England. "Marion"(younger) played by Emma Corrin is a young, single, new teacher. When hanging with her best-friend "Sylvie" played by Dora Davis. "Marion," notices her brother "Tom"(younger) played by Harry Styles. She was feeling like "Tom" is a little out of her league. They hit it off regardless, even though they're kind of opposites.
With a blossoming relationship starting to form. Both are young and vibrant starting their new careers. "Tom" is a policeman and "Marion" is an elementary school teacher. Then "Patrick"(younger) played by David Dawson arrives in town. He's a young brilliant mind. Working at the nearby museum. Just being friendly it doesn't take them long before they become the three musketeers. They were all a tight-knit group of friends.
While their friendship seemed rock solid and the love for "Marion" and "Tom" everlasting. There was another love brewing between "Patrick" and "Tom". This was in the late fifties so not a time to be able to come out. But moreover "Tom" and "Marion" take their love to the next level and get married.
You watch this sad tragic love tale. Showing a love triangle that had highs and lows. That was treacherous and deceitful. While exploding with passion in "Tom" and "Patrick" during their younger years. Now an older "Tom" played by Linus Roache, "Patrick" played by Rupert Everett and "Marion" played by Gina McKee all recount the past. Second guessing themselves, thinking about if they made the right decisions in life.
"My Policeman" was a sad romance. Back then it wasn't as open as it is now. It's still just sad on all levels that they lived a lie even when the times changed and they didn't have to. It was a lot of hurt and pain going back and forth.
"Marion" and "Tom" started their marriage with a lie. There is a scene where "Tom" sister "Sylvie" saw him staring at another man. It's like she knew. If she did that's extremely messed up to not warn her best friend. You don't have to out him but you could have deterred her from pursuing him.
This was messy on all accounts. The way they betrayed one another was horrible. Sadly, they all choose to live a lie even when the lie was exposed. Rather than fully coming out as bisexual or gay "Tom" denied his heart. Even though "Marion" knew she didn't have her husband's heart, at least not in the way you should. She turned a blind eye to reason and her happiness.
Seeing this trio older and either in bad health or miserable was heartbreaking. The acting was really good. I haven't liked the films I've seen Harry Styles act in. I can admit though he's a very good actor and his next arc or phase in life will be a good one. I see awards in his future.
This film displayed passion and acting skills. Unfortunately, this film was boring. I fell asleep a couple of times and had to rewatch it to finish it. It was paced slowly. The slow pace and the subject matter being so depressing were gut-wrenching. Especially how it ended, I felt more sorrow than happiness. This is a very real subject matter. I'm glad the film was made. It wasn't a bad film, it was just a miserable ride to be on. I give it two mor fires 🔥🔥.
shapet99 - 24 November 2022 A very solid adaptation I really appreciate what this film was attempting to do and how much of that it succeeded in doing. And, to get the central question off the table, Styles is quite good and impressed me with his ability to play the character he plays. I'd actually thought, from early descriptions of the two lead characters, that he'd play the other one. Without giving anything away, the other character seemed more like something aligned with Styles, but I respected very much that he played a character who was actually something different from him. It was nice to see and it remains nice to see how is career is developing.
Emma Corrin brings the same delicate, highbrow, yet appropriately soapy chops to the role here that she did playing Princess Diana in "The Crown," but the character isn't given enough dimension to allow her to make me feel the way she made me feel about Diana.
I think if you like the genre, the story, or Harry Styles, you'll like this film. And if you're a fan of the book, I don't think you'll be disappointed.
