The Munsters

Lily is a typical 150-year-old lovelorn vampire who's looking for the man of her nightmares -- until she lays her eyes on Herman, a 7-foot-tall green experiment with a heart of gold. It's love at first shock as these two ghouls fall fangs over feet for each other in a Transylvanian romance. Unfortunately, it's not all smooth sailing in the cemetery as Lily's father has other plans for his beloved daughter's future, and they don't involve her new bumbling beau.

    Fantastic family-friendly fright flick.
I really like Rob Zombie. But when I saw the trailer for The Munsters, I was horrified. And not in a good way. I thought it looked like a real piece of dog excrement. But when it became available on Netflix, I figured what the hell... I don't have to pay to watch it, and since I am a Rob Zombie fan, I'm willing to risk an hour and forty five minutes to see if it's any good. And as it turns out, it's pretty good! I mean, it's no House of 1000 Corpses, but with a PG rating, what do you expect? If you liked the 90's Addams Family movies, I think this will be right up your alley. If you have kids, and you want to introduce them to Rob Zombie's weirdness, in a kid friendly way, then you can't go wrong with The Munsters. If you want a blood and guts gore fest, well, I think you already know this ain't it. It's cute, funny in a cheesy way, and has a weird color scheme that resembles a colorized version of an old black and white film. Go for it. What have you got to lose?

    Right on the money
This is one of the first reboots that I've seen that is actually consistent with the original material. The Munsters was campy, silly, and family oriented. It was meant to be Leave it to Beaver meets old gothic classics. The original cast would have seen this and been blown away by how very hard the film cast worked to emulate the feeling of the original show. It's not a groundbreaking film meant to inspire or anything - it's just a love letter to a TV show millions of people around the world grew up watching. And I think they did a pretty great job of it, honestly. It definitely took me back to my childhood.

Haven't laughed this hard in ages
I don't get what the sad reviews are about.

If you're expecting another raw raunchy gore-fest, so typical of Zombie films. Then you're bound for disappointment.

    This is COMEDY.

Watching the previews on Hulu and Pluto TV streaming, we knew it was a winner.

How delightful to see something so opposite from Zombie's typical gore work. Best known for his string of gruesome features (House of the 1000 Corpses, Devil's Rejects, Lords of Salem etc.)

His first attempt in producing great comedy. We haven't laughed this hard in ages. Hello Mel Brooks meets the Wayans Bros.

Basically kicking off with in Transylvania's 'underground' rock arena ... 'entertainer' Hermann meeting - and falling for - the lovely Lily... How The Munster's got started. Essentially leaving the homeland for life in the States. And hopefully 'blend in' with American culture.

The tail end, paying homage to the classic '60s TV sitcom.

The stellar cast includes his wife Sherry Moon Zombie as Lily Munster in a role she's perfectly suited. Hermann, who's cornball humor at times fall flat. Paying perfect homage to the original TV Hermann, who at times annoyed the snot out of father-in-law Grandpaw. The remaining cast also don't disappoint.

A few faces I was vaguely familiar. But no-less wonderfully skilled actors in their respective roles, including Igor. And great cameo appearances from such legends as Elvira herself, Cassandra Knapp.

Excellent lighting, special effects, costuming, and script that flows as it's supposed to. Zombie has truly impressed with this turn of genre. Can't wait to see what his next comedy will be.

    Awful unfunny movie
Loved the original Munsters show re-runs and thought this would be fun to watch with my kid. It was awful and not at all funny not even to a child. Don't waste your time. This could have been so funny and nostalgic but is sadly just a disappointment.

    Not all there.................
I feel like this film could have been so much better than it was. Granted it isn't a bad film. I think it captures some sort of a feel that the show had. I thought all the actors did well, and I think Rob Zombie directing it was a good idea. He clearly has nostalgia for the Munsters so that works for the film well. I think the set peices are good too. And the way the film looks reminds me of the show. But sadly I feel like the writing wasn't all there. From some of the jokes being far to cringe inducing, to parts of the film that didn't need to be there. I feel like if the writing were better, then the film would have been much more enjoyable. Overall this is a fun enough film, while having some failed attempts, it works well enough for itself. I feel like a TV show would have been a better route.

Just as B as the original
Those with altruistic nostalgia need not watch.

The 60's Munsters wasn't a particularly well written show by any merit. It never won any major awards despite being nominated a few times. It's rated as 7.8 stars on IMBD as of 10/30/22. I grew up watching reruns and despite have 90's TGIF to watch I chose Munsters. It had something other shows didn't and I still don't know what. Rob's remake tapped into the heart of the OG show and gave the back story of Herman and Lilly that we didn't know we wanted. Even if you hated the story line, the visuals are really good and watching Sheri's wardrobe throughout the movie is worth the time.
