Top Gun Maverick fails to hit target for me
Joseph Kosinski Directs it OK but the script is so poor it ruins the main storyline for me. The human motivations are really lack luster.

Jim Cash ( credited but died in 2000 ), Jack Epps Jr. ( CASHed in on work he & Jim Cash did in the first Top Gun film as obviously didn't give a JACK about making the story better so long as he got paid ). Good for their families they get a retirement fund. Congratulations.

After all this film made tons of money so is a commercial success.

Peter Craig is a dreadful writer so how he got his hands on this film script is why it was ruined. He also wrote the story & screenplay of Bad Boys for Life (2020) which shows he really is not up to this at all.

Main problems are (1) No Kelly McGillis in the film which is just plain wrong. At least they showed Meg Ryan's character in a flash back.

They owed it to the Top Gun fans to the very least acknowledge what happened to "Charlie" as Kelly McGillis was a huge co-star originally.

So the film loses a star for that as disrespectful to the first film cast.

    (2) Tom Cruise character has not changed over time, so in all that time he has learned nothing ( as yes he can have a few faults but now he is to become a teacher he needs to have learned his own lessons ).

Character arcs are incredibly important & this movie has none in it.

    (3) Miles Teller & the rest of the supporting cast all did OK however the script was way too simplistic & all the characters were too 2D.

The film had one major plus though & that was the fight scenes in the fighter plans. Just a shame the storyline & script was terrible.

How to make a wonderful sequel 101
A textbook execution of making a wonderul sequel for a legendary movie.

Everything in this movie is where they should be. Nostalgia, action, wonderful peaks for a drama, character realization, connecting two very distinct stories in a masterful way, respecting what was done almost 40 years ago. The team developing Topgun 2, made their research, pushed the right buttons, considered the audiance's expectations and played very well on everything they did.

Topgun: Maverick should be a standard level, a marvelous benchmark to those who consider to work on a sequel or remake of any movie from the past. I am speechless to describe the handling of this sequel.

    Hats off!

    admirable
No doubts, the motif for see it was nostalgia. I was in high school when I saw Top Gun who was, it remains a pure phenomenom.

Maverick is fair hommage to the first part, well crafted, well acted, touching, powerful, convincing, melancholical, proposing a real impressive Tom Cruise and a couple of splendid scenes .

Not the story is the axis - very simple and almost conventional - but the impressive, in profound sense, chain of performances.

A film who deserves grateful emotion from audience, being not great, but just correct detail by detail, performance by performance - Jennifer Connelly or Miles Teller being good examples, Tom Cruise giving all the virtues to his Maverick piece by detail -conquering, for this, a large public.

Indeed, well crafted, with few moments easy to remain, for a good time, in memory.

    The Best Movie in 2022
"Top Gun: Maverick" is the long-awaited sequel to the 1986 film "Top Gun," which starred Tom Cruise as Pete "Maverick" Mitchell, a young naval aviator who is sent to Top Gun, the Navy's elite fighter weapons school.

The sequel, set 34 years after the original film, stars Tom Cruise once again as Maverick, now a flight instructor at Top Gun. The film also stars Miles Teller, Glen Powell, and Jennifer Connelly.

The movie takes place decades after the original film, and follows Maverick as he faces the challenges of modern air combat, including the use of unmanned drones.

Maverick is also mentoring a new generation of pilots, including Teller's character, Bradley Bradshaw, the son of his late wingman Nick "Goose" Bradshaw, who died in the first film.

The film's visuals are stunning, with breathtaking aerial footage and state-of-the-art special effects. The dogfight scenes are particularly impressive, with a level of realism that immerses the viewer in the action. The sound design is also impressive, with the roar of fighter jets filling the theater.

The movie has a good pacing and keeps the audience engaged throughout. It also has a decent storyline which is a combination of nostalgic feeling and new perspectives. The interactions between the characters are well-written, adding depth to the film.

Tom Cruise delivers another strong performance as Maverick, showing the character's growth and maturity over the years. He is surrounded by a talented supporting cast, with Miles Teller in particular delivering a standout performance as Bradshaw.

Overall, "Top Gun: Maverick" is a thrilling and visually stunning film that is sure to delight fans of the original. It's an action-packed film that will keep you on the edge of your seat with its high-speed dogfight scenes and state-of-the-art special effects.

It also has a good balance of nostalgia and new elements that keeps the audience engaged. Despite some of the cliche and predictability, it's still a well-made and entertaining movie.

    A beautiful sequal
Theres something so nice about a sequal thats been so many years and yet still maintains the charm that the original movie had. You could say that its probably not as great as the original but it still had the same great songs, awesome vehicles and othes that are nice to look at. There is some new cast up this time around following cruise and kimore. A new love interest jennifer connely is here and its always lovely to see her in films. We also have ed harris, john hamm and miles teller as one of the new recruits to mavericks training program. They get off to a rocky start but after understanding who he is they are alright. So overall it was a great action packed sequal that had a lot of heart but was sad aswell.

    Thank you Tom Cruise!!!
This movie is simply a phenomenal job and i could see Tom's hand throughout the whole movie. He does things to a superior unmatched level. Blow me away how real it was. Every event was planned perfect down to the music, the scenery transitions, the lenght of the scenes, incredible footage from the air wonderfull execution!!! Love the balance between friendship, drama, growing closer as a team and resolution of conflicts. The footage of the aircraft carrier, the footage of the flight scenes all the low altitute flights, airborne dogfights is just a beautiful love letter to cinema and no doubt my favourite movie so far is phenomenal!!!

Leather Jacket, Aviator glasses, Bike, Tom Cruise, Background Score - Goosebumps!!!!
Well, the title of my review pretty much gives away what I felt about this one. 😊.

Top Gun Maverick, is top notch entertainment, with Tom cruise at his finest.

Everyone grown up in the 90s had become a huge fan of the movie and style when top gun came out. The 90s generation nor the current one will be disappointed with this sequel.

There is nostalgia for the 90s folks, like I said with the music and cruises jacket and style. But there is more to maverick than just style and nostalgia. The plot is interesting and action sequences are brilliant. More than one hair raising moment in the movie!

    Entertainment all the way! Recommended!

In many ways this sequel is better than the original.
Thirty years after the first "Top Gun" (1986) took place Maverick has to do his thing with a new generation of Top Guns. He is tasked with training the new toppers to think out of the box on a mission where they encounter superior forces.

Is he up to the task? Or will he be himself again? How will he handle the memory of his old team and still he be effective with the new team (if they are a team)?

Every movie has a love interest. So, who will it be?

Even though you know most of the actors by name it is still good that in the ending credits they place the face with the name.

Be sure to watch the extras. If it is streaming without the extras, then it is time to buy the DVD.

Star Wars - New Hope Plot
"Maverick" is without a doubt a worthy and well-directed sequel to "Top Gun". Also thanks to the influence of Tom Cruise. Val Kilmer's short appearance makes you cry. However, the mission in the film is 100% the mission to destroy the Death Star in "Star Wars - New Hope". Pay attention to the details, the scenes play out almost identically, including the target monitor going out, torpedoes firing into a small hole and a "you have the force" moment. I would have wished for a Star Wars movie like "Maverick". That would take the Star Wars franchise to a new level where it's more realistic.

Thanks for an old-school US blockbuster. I've been missing that in the movie world for a long time.

    Heavily overrated!
How long are we expected to wait for a sequel to a legendary movie? Is it expected that as fickle as movie goers are; Top Gun:Maverick is to be gushed over as a blockbuster or be treated as a pretty good follow up. I expected more than a mediocre rehash of hunks of the most liked scenes in the original. Sure Tom Cruise is outstanding, mostly due to his work ethics and still being able to physically put his body through the rigors of making a movie.

Maverick has a disappointing rank for his years in the Navy; but of course his attitude and arrogance has pissed off numerous superior officers. He is more or less given a final chance to stay around even longer by returning to Top Gun and taking charge of training a squad of younger "best-of-the-best" to destroy an enemy uranium plant.

The flying scenes are stunning and choreographed flawlessly. The chemistry with Jennifer Connelly is smooth as magic. And the small part of Val Kilmer purely heartfelt. A very good popcorn movie. And for certain, Maverick (Cruise) still owns the sky!
