Extremely Disappointing
This movie was a huge disappoitment. I understand that a thorough plot is very important, but there's a time and a place. This is a franchise about fighting ghosts, so it is not the time nor the place to spend an hour and a half building up the plot.
It completely lacked the excitement factor that makes these movies what they are. The main action scene was literally 15 minutes long, and it was extremely anti-climactic. All that buildup amounted to nothing.
Besides all that, the humor was okay and visual effects were hit or miss. But overall, would not personally recommend. Final score of 4/10. - jose990 - 19 June 2024
Why?
Why is it so hard to make a good Ghostbusters movie? Afterlife set up what I thought was going to be the start of a good franchise but this was hardly worth going to the movies for. I'm kind of glad I didn't go to the movies and see this in the theater as opposed to renting it at home for six bucks. I just don't understand why they can't make a good movie. It's kind of like the transformers. You have a great franchise and for the life of me cannot write a good movie for it. If there's going to be a third movie I really hope it's done a lot better than this. Everything just seems so forced in this movie. I can understand having Ray, Winston and Janine but then when Peter showed up it just felt so forced. Even the villain the big bad was underwhelming. How do you make a movie in New York and make it feel like you were in a small town? Please do better next time. - cattrina - 9 June 2024
Family drama with minimal ghost stuff
This is not a Ghostbusters movie. It is lacking the humor, the action and compelling characters. There was no tension or conflict. It was a wet flop.
Also the editing is super weird, why did Dr. Venkman do any testing on the firemaster? He had not appeared once before the half time of the movie. They repeated couple encounters from the first movie, that's it. The main monster had no weight on anything whatsoever.
I was kinda hoping to see the old folks more and not all the children I do not know, why were there so many kids in the team?
And last, but not least, firebending, really? REALLY?

Frustratingly dull
I'm honestly gobsmacked as to how a movie franchise with all the potential and ingredients as GHOSTBUSTERS could miss the mark so badly. After a good, fun ten minutes setting up the premise and reintroducing us to the family, the film veers way off course with an hour and a half of absolute bilge before the final showdown.
Like many others, I was trying not to let my mind wander halfway through, trying to put into words how and why it was so excruciatingly dull to watch. We were getting characters, scenes, story, exposition, development... but it just all amounted to NOTHING. There was no fun, spectacle or energy whatsoever. By the time it remembered it was a Ghostbusters film we were 20 mins from the end, with zero time for purposeful build up or development and we're hit with a brief, messy finale that made little sense.
The acting and dislogue is wishy-washy, the action is practically non-existent, the structure is messy, the story and character development is as see-through as a ghost fart, but worst of all, those callbacks to earlier films. I was hoping they would move on and create a fresh new pallette to compliment the franchise, but no. Again. Like Afterlife (perhaps even worse than Afterlife) there's a tired, desperate sense that we all want to see 'fan favourites' every two minutes. It almost suggests "there's nothing of any substance here, so how about that ghost you loved from the first film". You just can't create something fresh and new, and interesting, when you're so preoccupied by retreading old ground. Yes, we all have the same fondness for the other movies. That's why we go back and watch them. What on earth is the point in wasting an opportunity for further creativity by rehashing what we've already seen a hundred times... especially when it's all out of context as merely 'nods' and detached from having any point whatsoever. Even those stupid marshmallow men. It was done, it was fun. The only emotion they instill now is "oh it's those things again... and again... and again". They serve no purpose anymore other than barring the way for something more interesting. Ditto that for every callback, including the old cast who lack any real purpose or character, or energy, mostly standing around with a figurative foam finger pointing at them screaming LOOK!! IT'S THE OLD GUYS!! They were like traffic cones on a road trip.
I have this memory growing up of Christmas lunch with all my extended family. We HAD to eat the 'big meal' but all I wanted, as a 6 year old, was to play with my gifts. Parents would say 'you can play after lunch' and I'd sit, fidgeting and restless, while the adults talked and talked through course after course. Starter, main, dessert, coffee. It was excruciatingly slow and dull. I knew the fun was an arm's length away, but I just had to patiently sit through 2 hours of long, boring chat before I could go have fun. Welcome to Ghostbuster: Frozen Empire.
A wasted opportunity, a waste of talent, a waste of time.
