    Carnage is all wrong
This Venom has always been a different from the comics, but it's close enough, and Tom Hardy's performance made it work.

Carnage is a fan favorite, and some surprisingly good work is done (although his physique doesn't match Cletus) all the way up till the cg carnage hits the screen - at which point it all falls apart.

Carnage is supposed to be scary. Yes he's stronger than venom, but the only way you understand to show that is to make him bigger and roaring like a beast?? He is supposed to be leaner, the tendrils are supposed to be like needles, Carnage is scary because he is an insane killer with a knife, he's not supposed to be a bear.

There was an opportunity to show us a new design with this iconic character, but what we got was a throwaway copy paste of the villain from the last movie. It's a real shame.

Woody Harrelson is weird in this, and it's super predictable.
You can just skip this movie entirely. This movie comes off really weird. I think it would have been better if they cast somebody else than Woody Harrelson to be a madman serial killer possessed by Venom. After the first one, I was really looking forward to the sequel, and I have to be honest, I was a little bit disappointed after watching it. Like I said, Woody Harrelson doesn't quite fit the bill for the main antagonist. It would have worked so much better if they cast someone like Willem Dafoe or someone who at least looks evil. I was surprised that this was directed by Andy Serkis. I'm really interested to see Venom versus Spider-Man if that's still coming out or not. I think you could just skip this movie entirely and just wait for that instead. There's not really much else to say. It's just super forgettable when it tries to do so much more. I mean, the direction is not bad by any means, and the camera work is really awesome, but I just think the casting in this movie brought it down a peg or two. You're not missing anything significant if you skip this movie entirely.

    More of the same...
The first Venom was hugely flawed but still somewhat entertaining, and I was hoping the sequel would iron out the kinks and step everything up. Unfortunately, what we have here is very much more of the same - sloppy storytelling, disjointed pacing and phoned in performances. Harrelson seems like the perfect Kasady/Carnage casting choice on paper, but he just doesn't fit right in the role somehow. The plot is boring and utterly predictable (hero loses his powers only to have his love interest kidnapped so has to get them back to save her... am I talking about Spider-Man 2 or Venom 2? Answer: both), the film just doesn't do Carnage justice at all, and the CGI effects seem worse here than in the first film. Hardy still does well with his Brock/Venom relationship that has more spats than a troubled marriage, Michelle Williams who plays Anne is much better here than in the first film, and Naomie Harris was actually pretty great as Shriek. Overall it's not terrible, but it should have been a lot better. Maybe third time will be the charm?

    Lions do not eat salad.
Eddie interviews killer Cletus Kasady just before his execution, but an accident leads to carnage.

I quite enjoyed the first one, so my expectations, though not enormous, were pretty high, sadly for me, they weren't met. The first film did at least have a plot, a storyline, that was sadly lacking here, it was just ninety minutes of noise, action, and stuff happening, sadly nothing about it was cohesive, it all felt a bit messy.

There were a few amusing moments, the breakfast scene was funny, it looked great and was fun, the look on Eddie's face was quite something. Maybe the balance of silliness outweighed the drama and excitement side of things. Lots of action, lots of noise, not much else. The trailer made it look as though it was action galore, it's not quite the case.

The visuals were terrific, perhaps even better than in the first, great special effects throughout.

Tom Hardy, along with many people, I am a huge fan, and not just of the visuals, he was very good here, I'm just not sure the film was quite at the level he needed it to be at.

Good movie with some poorly done aspects
Not a bad movie. Personally I enjoyed it especially thanks to the continued storyline and the growing friendship between Brock and Venom as well as side characters like Anne and Dan who were quite enjoyable. This is a rare take which shows the usually spider man villains in a different light. However there are things that could have been better and that I expected more from. Carnage is too cool a villain to kill off this quickly and his end managed to be sad despite the despicable things he did. There could have been a lot better work for future installments for the character of Cleutus and I don't really find that cop interesting for any future Carnage storylines nor would it be fun without the joker with powers and a bond with Eddy thing. The spider man cliffhanger definitely seems cool but idk the whole movie seemed a bit rushed and slow in my opinion and the backstreet poor gangster controlling his symbiote friend vibe was a little depressing. Overall 7 out of 10 from me at best.

    Fun ride
Hmpfh... No nonsense fun for a lazy afternoon. I mean, we've all seen Marvel's best and worst. This is a something in between. Has it's moments, Hardy delivers, so does Venom, he really is one of the most interesting and volatile characters from the Universum. The movie is not absurdly long so there are little regrets if you did not like it. All in all, thumbs up from me.
